Seattle Wellness Group: Acupuncture FAQ

How does Acupuncture work?

Acupuncturist works on the body through many mechanisms. Simply, acupuncture can reduce inflammation, increase circulation, and regular muscle and organ system function to promote health and wellness!
For you analytical types, here is more information how How Acupuncture Works.

Does Acupuncture hurt? I don’t like needles.
Luckily, acupuncture utilizes tiny, solid needles that were very different from hypodermic needles used in injections and blood draws.

What should I wear?
Try to wear or bring a set of loose clothing. Ideally, we would like to reach below your knees and elbows. If there are other areas we need to access it is our policy to drape appropriately.

What should I do before and after treatment?
Before Treatment: Please try to have something in your stomach before coming in for your visit and drink plenty of water.
After treatment. Try to relax and avoid over stimulating activities.

Is Acupuncture compatible with other forms of health care?
Many people refer to acupuncture as “alternative” therapies. We

believe the more appropriate term is COMPLIMENTARY. While Western Allopathic Medicine is strong in traumatic, acute conditions, such as a broken arm, Chinese Medicine’s strength lies in chronic, long term conditions that are the result of nutrition, habits, addictions, family constitution, emotions, stress, and coping mechanisms.

Does it work?
Absolutely! Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine would not be around today and accepted worldwide if the treatments did not produce results. This it the reason why chiropractors and physical therapists are trying to practice acupuncture by calling it “dry needling.” This is the reason why medical doctors and nurses are trying to practice acupuncture by calling it, “medical acupuncture.” Ultimately, the Western medical society sees the benefits of acupuncture and has the audacity to appropriate all forms of medicine from indigenous cultures where they originally came from. They do this while simultaneously disproving the beliefs, values, and origin. This is an extension of neo-colonial outlooks of superiority and not giving credit where credit is due.

If your condition affects your job, hobbies, or relationship with loved ones, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment or consultation with our acupuncturist today!

How Many Treatments do I need to get?
Every person responds to acupuncture differently and we highly recommend a consultation.

Generally, acute and minor conditions can show immediate results within 4-8 treatments.
Moderate to severe conditions can show improvement with 8-12 treatments.

Maintenance care may be required depending on the type of occupational position and repetitive motions involved.

Ultimately, the biggest factors involved are whether the condition is acute or chronic, your overall level of health, lifestyle factors, nutrition, and your commitment and accountability in the healing process.

What is it Acupuncture good for?
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years to treat pain, digestion, sleep, gynecological, and a whole lot more. Here is a link to the most common conditions for Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Book a free consultation with our acupuncturist and she can explain more!

Can I get Acupuncture and Chiropractic care in the same day?
Yes, in fact, these two services are compatible with each other. Acupuncture works more the central nervous system functioning while chiropractic is more of a structural medicine. If you get them the same day, usually we recommend acupuncture first. The adjustments following acupuncture treatments are easier and hold for much longer.

Is it “too much” to have all the therapies simultaneously?
For most people, no, it is not too much. Generally, we recommend massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic care in that order, since patients have better results that way. Make sure to stay hydrated before, between, and after treatments.

Can I receive Acupuncture while pregnant?
Please inform our acupuncturist if you are pregnant or trying. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is extremely safe before, during and after pregnancy. There are certain areas that will be avoided for your utmost care.
