Craniosacral Therapy

CRANIOSACRAL TECHNIQUE

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, light-touch treatment that works with balancing the natural rhythm and structure of the cranium and sacrum, thereby treating the entire myofascial and musculoskeletal systems. It helps to promote the flow of cerebrospinal fluid throughout the brain and spinal cord. It also works to relax the body’s nervous system so proper healing can occur. Craniosacral therapy has shown itself to be very effective in treating headaches, migraines, jaw/teeth grinding, sleep challenges, anxiety and behavioral issues, and recovery from head trauma/surgery.

CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, non-invasive technique. Dr. Robin and Dr. Bajwa use light touch to mobilize restrictions in the connective tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. This treatment assists the self-correcting mechanisms of the body to naturally optimize internal structures, and as a result, improve function. The motion generated by the craniosacral rhythm moves the membranes and thereby all the structures of the body. The doctors use this rhythm as a physiological indicator in treatment.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Dura is the membranous structure which connects the brain to the cranium, and it protects the delicate spinal cord within the spine and attaches to the base of the spine with the sacrum. The cranium and sacrum move in conjunction with one another to circulate cerebrospinal fluid along the entire length of the spinal cord. Cerebrospinal fluid is the nourishment for the brain and spinal cord and needs to be circulated properly. The pressure of this fluid and tension on the dura are the two things that move cranial and sacral bones. Craniosacral evaluation looks at how the bones of the cranium and sacrum are moving and if there are any imbalances present. Balancing this movement can help with decreasing stress on the nervous system, allowing it to function at a higher level. It also can be very helpful in getting chiropractic adjustments and alignment techniques to “hold”.

CRANIOSACRAL AND STRESS

Craniosacral technique can help to calm down the nervous system, which has many benefits, including helping with ADD/ADHD, sleeping problems, and infants with latching problems. It can help alleviate tension created by teeth clenching or grinding. Overall, it is a great way of decreasing stress in the body.
